  • Founder

Laura Iden is an accomplished Physical Therapist and Athletic Trainer whose commitment to helping others achieve holistic health started with her own journey.

As a practicing orthopedic and sports medicine Physical Therapist since 2008, Laura has treated all forms of athletes, from soccer, hockey, baseball, and basketball players to fencers, dancers, and gymnasts. She drew on her own experience as an athlete to connect to her patients.

Laura’s athletic career took off as a soccer player at Union Catholic High School, where she was an All-American Soccer player and is currently in their Athletic Hall of Fame. She played Division I soccer and was team captain while she obtained her undergraduate degree from Brown University. Laura continued her athletic journey by running half marathons and Tough Mudders while earning her Doctorate in Physical Therapy and Master of Athletic Training at Seton Hall University.

Having been an elite athlete and a patient, Laura knows the importance of optimizing your body’s structure and functional capabilities. Yet her own athletic endeavors came to a halt upon becoming a mom. After having her children in 2016 and 2018, Laura realized she wouldn’t get back to her pre-baby self, athletically, without help. Thankfully, she found an inspiring physical therapist that examined her from the top of her head to the bottom of her feet. Learning that she suffered from pelvic floor issues was expected. Other results were not so obvious, even for this seasoned athlete and physical therapist.

Laura learned that an overbite, yes, an overbite, along with a history of 3 ACL surgeries, had thrown her entire body out of balance. This caused her neck and chest to overcompensate and do the work to control most of her body. This revelation led her to seek further knowledge about the body’s interconnectedness to help other men and women with similar struggles.

She became a Postpartum Corrective Exercise Specialist who strongly desires to help other mamas bridge the gap between having their children and getting back to an active lifestyle. Whether that means chasing their kids around the living room or running a marathon, and NO, you should not have to endure leaking or feeling like something is “off” when you do either.

Laura hopes to guide her clients through a fitness journey that is fun, pain-free, long, and healthy. Whether you’re looking to perform Cross Fit or other group workouts, HIIT workouts or free weight work at the gym, training for your fifth marathon, or your first 5K, Laura can be your guide to ensure that you progress properly and optimize your results.

Laura realizes the importance of a holistic approach to physical therapy. Grounding oneself with the earth, meditating, and connecting to your parasympathetic nervous system is as valuable to our health as eating and drinking. Laura approaches her clients’ treatment in the same way. To Laura, delivering quality care is about recognizing her clients’ individualized needs and addressing them through a whole-body approach. As she learned about herself: never underestimate the impact of an overbite! It just might be the straw that doesn’t have to break you back.

When she is not working, Laura loves spending time with her two children, their dog, Bailey, and her amazing husband, Adam. She also loves to work out (of any sort) and participate in road races, triathlons, snowboarding, yoga, SUP, and kayaking with her family. Any day where she is outside, clearing her mind, and connecting to nature, is a good day.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • During your first visit, your therapist will conduct a comprehensive initial evaluation. We will discuss your pain and current level of functional mobility. We will then assess your strength, flexibility, range of motion, posture, balance, gait, and ergonomics of both your home and work environment.

We provide you with an examination gown, or you can bring exercise clothing, preferably shorts. Your therapist will work with you individually for the entire hour. Your therapist will NOT see another patient at any time during your evaluation or subsequent treatments.

At the end of your evaluation, the therapist will review the findings, establish goals and formulate a preliminary treatment plan.

Prior to your follow-up session, your therapist will design an individualized exercise program based on the clinical findings. Patients in acute pain will receive treatment during the first session, and the evaluation will be completed on the second visit.

During your second visit, your therapist will instruct you in your preliminary exercise program and review proper postural alignment and body mechanics. Pain and muscle spasm relieving modalities, including soft tissue manipulation, will be administered. During each follow-up session, your therapist will review your current exercise program to ensure all exercises are being performed properly.

We encourage our patients to contact us in between sessions via email or phone at (212) 754-6557 with any questions or concerns.
